That Street

from This Month's Rent by The Decay

/

about

I moved from Sudbury to Guelph but would go back home during the summers to "work in the mines".

This song is about the nostalgia felt every time I would return home and see the no-longer existent punk hangouts of the Sudbury punk scene of the late 90s.
What was still there though were the people that made it great. They all grew up, many moved away, but often everyone would come back, at least for summers or christmas, and for a second you had the same feeling.

lyrics

So we wait,
and it's 9:45 at the station
we talked about it
he's still coming, she's coming down
How long it's been
It feels like we were kids
It feels like we were home
It feels like we turned out alright

Back then our world turned upside down
But I'm still waiting on, that street, where we made our lives
You know the things we said weren't wrong
We never felt we belonged
Summers can't get too long
Walking downtown in the rain

our hair has changed again
our faces they look smart
I gave you that shirt
you gave me this scar
If it's only for a week
If it's only for a year
you know school was why I had to leave

Back then our world turned upside down
But I'm still waiting on, that street, where we made our lives
You know the things we said weren't wrong
We never felt we belonged
Summers can't get too long
Walking downtown in the rain

How long we,
We waited,
On dog eared letters in the mail,
How long we,
Remember, each July sun each time we carried on

Still waiting on that street
Still waiting on that road
Still waiting that street

I see the lights, I'm heading home
I see the lights I see the lights I'm heading home
I see the lights I see the lights I'm heading home
I'm going home
