about
It's supposed to be a play on singing a working-class punk song, but in the second verse it makes it clear the song's about an office job
the changing landscape of employment, yadda yadda yadda
I wrote this song right after I got out of school - no job, no money, and recovering from surgery on my testicles.
I just wanted to leave and never fucking come back.
lyrics
These days, it's hard to get up
find the change for the bus put my best face forward
And I find my favourite place at work,
in my head, in my head
Yeah nothing's changing
I wear the same thing every day,
No-one noticed when I didn't come in, I walked away with a smile on my face I'm thinking
We've got no money, but we're not lonely
the kitchen's empty, so we'll go hungry
but I had every, thing I needed
It's getting hard, these days
Living tight, these days
I'm getting off, at ten, you won't be waiting there
I'm getting headaches from the lights,
under my desk I think it's alright
I squint to see the text on the screen
the letters fall off and I'm blamed for them missing
We are, We are, in such a hurry to reach middle age
And they say you should know, you SHOULD know,
this will come back to haunt you later
We've got no money, but we're not lonely
The kids are ugly, so they'll go hungry
And I had everything I need,
It's getting hard, these days
Living tight, these days
Getting off, at ten, you won't be waiting there
No, you're never waiting there
Getting hard these days, Living tight these days
Getting off, at ten, you're never waiting there
It's getting by, these days
We're getting right, these days
Getting off at ten, you're never waiting there
Thinking I'm taking right off
Thinking we're already packed
Thinking we're taking right off
Thinking we're already packed
Taking off, Let's take off together
And sing this off together
Let's take this off together
and sing this one forever
